Fire and Rescue Services attended 212,500 fires in 2014-14, continuing the downward trend of incidents of the last 10 years.

Tesco pleaded guilty to five breaches of fire safety legislation at Wood Green Crown Court and received a penalty of almost £120,000 (including £24,000 prosecution costs), following a fire at its Colney Hatch store.

The Co-operative Group then received a £210,000 fine for six breaches at
one of its Southampton branches.

Greggs (the well known bakers) pleaded guilty to two breaches of the
Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 after appearing at Illsworth Crown
Court on the 13th December. It was fined £50,000 and ordered to pay a further
£20,326 in costs.

The Court of Appeal upheld a £400,000 fine against New Look (as well as
over £135,000 for investigation and prosecution costs), following a guilty plea
to two offences under the RRO.
